Kagumo-ini is one of four coffee mills called ‘factories’ in Kenya that form part of the Mugaga Farmer Cooperative Society. The mill works with smallholder producers, each with 300 to 400 coffee trees that they grow and harvest. The producer’s coffee grows in small gardens alongside vegetables, fruit and often tea. When driving through the Great Rift Valley that cuts through Nyeri the fields mixed of tea and coffee surround the road.

Kenyan coffee is one of the most prized origins in coffee. It has a history of creating a cup profile that tastes of redcurrant being very winey. This is attributed to the long fermentation of the coffee which imparts more flavour from the coffee cherry into the seed. When the long fermentation is combined with the prized SL28 and SL34 cultivars it gives the final cup the signature Kenyan profile.
