With the arrival of summer we also get to experience the arrival of coffee from one of our favourite origins, Ethiopia. We wanted our first Ethiopian release of the harvest to typify why we love coffee from where it all started: vibrantly bright with a bursting crisp acidity, Sasaba captures the signature blueberry and jasmine note that is so beloved in Ethiopian coffee.

Created by hundreds of smallholder farms in Ethiopia’s Guji region, this coffee was crafted in a way that combines care with traditional skill to create a coffee unmistakably Ethiopian and incredibly delicious.

The first stories of where coffee comes from are located in what used to be known as the Abyssinian Kingdom, and is present day Ethiopia. The earliest mention we have of coffee dates back to the 15th century in Yemen, where a trader named Sufi imported the precious beans to the Port of Mocha and started the spread of the delicious drink across the Middle East and then the world.

Although now grown all around the globe, Ethiopia retains its signature cup profile of incredible fruitiness with heaps of refreshing acidity. The cultivars grown across the country have been selected over hundreds of years and are sometimes known as ancient typica. These cultivars taste nothing like any other and are only found in their native home, where producers have passed them down for generations.
