The world’s most acclaimed cultivar came to Panama in the 1930s, it was planted, but never tasted by itself. Over 80 years after arriving some trees were singled out for the coffee to be finally tasted. When that day finally came the world of coffee was forever changed. This happened on the Peterson family’s farm, Hacienda La Esmerelda. The coffee immediately garnerd the Petersons awards and international acclaim. This lot from Esmeralda shows why: immensely vibrant and sweet, it is truly something special.

This natural processed lot is a mixture from three of Esmerelda’s neighbouring farms: Jaramillo, Quiel, and Cañas Verde. All three farms sit at similar altitudes, which results in the production of highly uniform coffees with incredible flavour clarity. The Peterson’s decision to emphasize climate uniformity speaks to the depth of their coffee growing expertise. Their experimental farms and the knowledge they gather there ensures that they are always at the forefront of specialty coffee.
