The Suke Quto Farm was born out of a bushfire. Over a decade ago, a fire ripped through Tesfaye Bekele’s land and after the ash cooled he decided to replant. To pay for the seedlings, he mixed coffee with seeds to use the proceeds to keep expanding his land. Now the Farm sits under trees, giving shade to the coffee, restricting sunlight so the coffee cannot photosynthesis so much. This means the coffee cherry takes slower to ripen and the seed can take in more nutrients, which turns to delicious flavours once we are done roasting.

The idea of preservation of ecology and respecting the land is at the heart of Suke Quto, and with that, it is an organically certified coffee as well as Rainforest Alliance certified. RA certification is about ensuring that the animal ecology of the coffee farm is not only preserved but fostered to grow. Standing on the Farm, you can hear its health in the bird songs and crawling insects. Suke Quto is the type of farm that is alive with wildlife and nature.
