Kiss the Hippo Coffee – Modern Slavery Statement

As Kiss the Hippo Coffee, we've partnered with our importers to ensure our commitment to ethical and sustainable sourcing is upheld. We are dedicated to combating modern slavery and human trafficking.

Our Stance on Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking
This statement, published in line with section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, outlines the steps we take to identify and reduce the risk of modern slavery within our business and supply chains.

At Kiss the Hippo, we are committed to sourcing and providing specialty-grade Arabica coffee in a progressive, sustainable, and ethical manner. We believe our success is built on strong, respectful relationships from our staff to our suppliers. We operate with a zero-tolerance policy for modern slavery and human trafficking and will not knowingly do business with any organisation involved in these practices.

Our Policies and Supply Chain
As an equal opportunities employer, we are dedicated to creating a non-discriminatory and respectful workplace. Our recruitment processes ensure all employees are legally authorised to work in the UK, protecting them from exploitation.

Due to the nature of our business, we consider our risk of modern slavery to be low to moderate. To mitigate this, we thoroughly vet our supply chains and build long-term relationships with all our partners, from coffee growers and importers to third-party vendors. Our direct-trade relationships with coffee suppliers are a key part of our identity and ensure our values are upheld throughout the entire coffee journey.

To support this commitment, the following policies are available to all staff:

- Staff company handbook

- Anti-corruption and bribery policy

- Capability procedure policy

- Bullying and harassment policy

- Equality, diversity, and inclusion policy

Our Ongoing Commitment

We continue to embed these principles into our operations by:

- Providing staff with awareness training on the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and how to report any suspicions.

- Ensuring procurement staff are aware of and follow modern slavery guidance.

- Adding modern slavery risk prevention to our policy review process.

- Including references to modern slavery and human trafficking in our procurement strategies and contracts.

- Taking action to embed our zero-tolerance policy across the business.

- Training staff involved in buying, procurement, and recruitment on ethical employment practices.

- Recording all reported incidents of modern slavery and human trafficking and taking effective action.
